"Earth Observation Fair '97" was held September 19-20, 1997 at Tokyo Big Sight
(Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo.) The fair consisted of three parts: a lecture meeting,
an exhibition, and an Earth observation data processing training session. The
fair was open to the public, and about three thousand people attended.

The lecture meeting had a keynote address "Archaeology from Space" and 14
lectures on Earth observation data potential in many scientific fields and
general public applications. These lectures presented new information based on
the data from ADEOS. Many attendees took notes during these interesting lectures.

The exhibition consisted of four poster sessions by remote sensing laboratories
and 24 booths exhibits by companies engaged in earth observation and remote
sensing activities. Many visitors enjoyed viewing these booths, satellite
models and rocket models and talking with exhibitors about interesting displays.

In the Earth observation data processing training session, Teachers of junior
and senior high schools were given the opportunity to try processing satellite
data. The 37 teachers tried to process the satellite data for use in their own
classes.

After this fair, JAXA plans to execute many projects to promote using Earth
observation satellite data in many fields.
