6. ADEOS-II RESEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT

As a result of the ADEOS accident on June 30, JAXA has to abandon its plan to
issue a Research Announcement (RA) for ADEOS and ADEOS-II, provisionally
titled "ADEOS Series Research Announcement 1997 (ADEOS Series RA 97)." Instead,
JAXA intends to issue an RA for only ADEOS-II. The ADEOS-II project team at
EORC is preparing to issue the ADEOS-II Research Announcement next spring.
The following ADEOS-II science mission research areas will be encouraged in
this ADEOS-II RA:
A. Algorithm Development
(Algorithms of GLI and AMSR standard products are excluded.)
B. Calibration and Validation
C. Science
C-1 Stratospheric and Tropospheric Chemistry
C-2 Clouds, Aerosols and Radiation
C-3 Ocean Biology
C-4 Ocean Physics
C-5 Climate and Climate Change
C-6 Weather
C-7 Vegetation Biology
C-8 Hydrological Processes
C-9 Snow and Ice
C-10 Geography
The tentative schedule for this ADEOS-II RA is as follows:
(1) RA Issue: March 15, 1998
(2) Proposal Deadline: June 15, 1998
(3) Proposal Selection: September 15, 1998
(4) Research Start: January, 1999
(5) Research Review: March, 2001
This ADEOS-II RA will be issued in the form of printed materials and
electrical media which will be available at the EORC ADEOS-II Home Page
(URL address - http://www.eorc.jaxa.jp/ADEOS-II/GLI/adeos2.html).
