ADEOS SERIES RESEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT 1997
Ryuji Matsuoka
ADEOS Science Program Coordinator
Earth Observation Research and application Center, Japan Space Exploration AgencyWe are now preparing to publish a Research Announcement (RA) for ADEOS and ADEOS-II, provisionally named "ADEOS Series Research Announcement 1997 (ADEOS Series RA 97)." We had difficulty in drafting the RA, so we had to spend more time than we had expected. As a result, we now plan to issue the RA in February 1997, almost one month behind the schedule reported in the previous Newsletter.
As noted in the previous ADEOS Newsletter, algorithm development for ADEOS is limited in the RA. Target algorithms are now under review. The algorithms below are candidates.
Other research areas encouraged in this ADEOS Series RA 97 were described in ADEOS Newsletter No. 4.
- For individual sensors
- Atmospheric correction (OCTS/AVNIR)
- Chlorophyll-a retrieval (OCTS/POLDER)
- Ocean primary production retrieval (OCTS)
- Sea surface temperature retrieval (OCTS/IMG)
- Cloud characteristics (OCTS/POLDER/IMG)
- Sea surface wind vector retrieval (NSCAT)
- Aerosol retrieval (OCTS/TOMS/POLDER/ILAS)
- Coaster water quality (OCTS)
- Vegetation cover (OCTS/AVNIR/POLDER)
- Vegetation parameters such as APAR, LAI, NPP (OCTS/AVNIR/POLDER)
- Ice and snow cover (OCTS/AVNIR/NSCAT)
- Generation of digital elevation data (AVNIR)
- For multiple sensors
- Chlorophyll-a retrieval (OCTS, POLDER)
- Sea surface temperature retrieval (OCTS, IMG)
- Air-sea interaction (OCTS, NSCAT, IMG)
- Cloud characteristics (OCTS, POLDER, IMG)
- Aerosol retrieval (OCTS, TOMS, POLDER, ILAS)
- 4-dimensional assimilation of ozone (IMG, ILAS, TOMS, RIS)
- Vegetation cover (OCTS, AVNIR, POLDER)
- Vegetation parameters such as APAR, LAI, NPP (OCTS, AVNIR, POLDER)
- Ice and snow cover (OCTS, NSCAT)
The tentative schedule for the ADEOS Series RA 97 is as follows:
This ADEOS Series RA 97 will be issued using printed materials and electrical media which will be available on the EORC ADEOS Home Page. Your interest and cooperation in participating in the ADEOS Series RA 97 are highly appreciated.
