ADEOS LAUNCH POSTPONED TO AUG. 1, 1996

Because ADEOS carries eight different sensors, the interfaces between sensors and the satellite bus and ground system are very complicated. During the integration test phase, several failures occurred in the signal interface line between sensors and the bus. These failures damaged the NASA Scatterometer (NSCAT) waveguide and caused command operation errors and satellite mission data transmission errors. Determining the cause will be costly and time consuming, so JAXA decided to postpone the ADEOS launch for six months. The launch delay impact has not been precisely estimated, but the project office will do its best to meet the new launch date.
