About Kanazawa: The modern, refined capital of Ishikawa-ken and 3 hours away from Osaka by the express train. Kanazawa offers the visitor a nice blend of cultural/historical sights and natural beauty.

History: Its history stretches back over seven hundred years to when the region was known as Kaga. During the 15th century, Kanazawa once came under the control of an autonomous Buddhist government and became Japan's only independent Buddhist states.

Attraction: Kenrokuen Garden - one of Japan's most famous gardens Myoryu-ji - knowns as 'Ninja' temple Nomura Samurai House - located in the Nagamachi district, once inhabited by Samurai

Take Airport Limousine Bus from NRT to Haneda Airport (90 minutes/\3,000), then fly from Haneda AP into Komatsu AP(1 hour/\18,500). Take Airport Limousine Bus from Komatsu AP to Kanazawa sta. (40~60 minutes/\1,100)

Currency Exchange

The currency is Yen/\. Please check the exchange rate. Yen can be purchased at all foreign exchange banks, major hotels and authorized money exchanges upon presentation of your passport.

*Please note that some currencies can not be exchanged into Yen in Japan. Changing into Yen or US dollars before arriving in Japan is recommended .

Traveler's Cheque and Credit Cards

Traveler's cheques are not as widely used in Japan as in the most other countries and are accepted only by major banks and hotels. Major credit cards are widely accepted. Conventional checks are almost unheard of in everyday life. A service charge is included in some bills. The consumption tax (VAT) rate is 5 %.

Tipping

Tips are not required or expected in Japan including hotels and restaurants.
 

Passport and Visas
Every foreign visitor entering Japan must have a valid passport. Visitors from nations whose Citizens must have visas should apply to a Japanese consular office or diplomatic mission in their respective country.
 
Insurance
Participants are recommended to arrange their own overseas travel insurance.
 
Climate
During the period of the workshop, Kanazawa is in the fall-winter season. The temperature
can be ranged from 7°C to 14°C. ( 50°F - 65°F)
 
Time
Despite Japan's east-west distance, the country is all on the same time. 9 hours ahead of GMT.
 
Electrical Appliances
100 volts and a flat two-pronged plug is used.
A Japanese quirk: 60 Hz in Ishikawa and other western Japan. 50 Hz in Tokyo and other
eastern Japan.
