Global Change Observation Mission (GCOM) Sixth Research Announcement
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is announcing the sixth research announcement (RA), which is the opportunity to conduct algorithm development, validation preparation, and application research for the first satellite of the GCOM-C (Climate) series, GCOM-C, as well as multi-sensor research mainly using data from GCOM-C.
1. About the Sixth Research Announcement
GCOM will consist of three consecutive generations of two satellite types with 1-year overlaps, resulting in a 13-year observation period. The two satellites are GCOM-C and GCOM-W (Water). The first satellite of the GCOM-C series, GCOM-C, will be equipped with the Second-generation Global Imager (SGLI) to observe the Earth's atmosphere and surface, contributing to the understanding of the carbon cycle and radiation budget. The GCOM-W satellite will carry the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer-2 (AMSR2) to contribute to understanding the water and energy cycle.
In this RA, JAXA solicits 3-year research proposals beginning from Japanese fiscal year 2016, for GCOM-C algorithm development, validation preparation, and application research, as well as multi-sensor research mainly using data from GCOM-C (both funding and non-funding researches). JAXA will give priority to the areas of GCOM-C at-launch algorithm preparation, algorithm improvement, product validation, and development of new application schemes for the funding research.
RA details and forms for proposals can be downloaded from the following link. Please read carefully the contents before your application. Proposals with complete sets of attachments, such as reprints of papers, should be converted to PDF file and sent via E-mail to the GCOM RA Office. Proposers who experience difficulty in downloading the documents may contact GCOM RA Office for assistance.
