Iceland reflects the morning sunlight appeared from behind the clouds over around the
Norwegian Sea. To the north of Iceland rises the thick ice sheet of Greenland in the
dark Polar night.
This image is GLI 1km resolution bands 13 (678nm), 8 (545nm), 5 (460nm) RGB true color
image acquired on January 25 2003.

Antarctic ice sheet was observed from the Antarctic Peninsula to the Ross Ice Shelf
(Image (a)). Snow over land, snow over sea ice, and clouds in the true color image are
classified and shown in red, pink, and grey colors, respectively (Image (b)). You can
see temperature variation (blue = cold, red = warm) resulted from the spatial variation
of ice sheet thickness from 0 m to 3000 m (Image (c)).
These images are GLI 1km resolution images acquired on January 25 2003. The image (a)
is GLI bands 13 (678nm), 8 (545nm), 5 (460nm) RGB true color image and the image (c) uses
band 35 (11 µm) in the thermal infrared wavelength region.
