Note for Ver.3 products

General

  • Version number of ALL products will be changed from "2xxx" to "3xxx" except for L1 products and L2 tile LTOA products.
  • G-Portal (FTP) directory for standard products will be changed from "2" to "3" for the updated products.
    The directory of near-realtime products is not changed (only the file name is changed).

    • Statistical products

    1. Just after switching to Ver.3, there will be incomplete statistical products (8days,1month).
    2. The accuracy of L2 daily RSRF products may not be stable for up to 3 months due to insufficient input at the time of version switching.
    3. All L2 products are affected by the preceding paragraph since they input RSRF products.
    4. For the first few days from Ver.3 release, ARNP products that use the RSRF statistical product as input will output missing data since the Ver.3 RSRF statistical product does not exist in that period.
    5. We will reprocess all the products for the above periods (unstable accuracy or missing data are provided) as soon as the necessary data are completed.

    • Aerosol products（ARNP）

  • （i）Data not created / minor value discrepancies
    1. A bug has been found in the Ver.3 ARNP product that some data is not created or minor value discrepancies occur (only when all of the following conditions are meatched)
      ・Image_end_time is after UTC 23:30
      ・Descending（Daytime observation）
    2. The potentially affected files are below.
      Area: The part of the Tile data (L2 ARNPK), Global data (L2 ARNPF, L3 AROTC, L3 ARAEC, L3 ASSAC）
      Period: 2021 June-July, 2022 February-March
      ・Tile list (Tile number and locations are shown in the figure)
      ・File name list（2021）
    3. All affected products will be processed correctly and will be distributed via FTP site.
    4. The above bug has been already fixed by a minor version update of the product (V3001->V3002).
    （ii）Data missing in certain ocean regions
    1. A bug bas been found in the Ver.3 ARNP product that the TILE data with no valid value is generated in certain ocean regions.
    2. The potentially affected files are below.
      Area: The part of the Tile data (L2 ARNPK)
      Period: 2020 July - 2022 May
    3. All affected products will be processed correctly and will be distributed via FTP site.
    4. The above bug will be fixed by a minor version update of the product (V3002->V3003).
    （iii）Invalid snow/ice masking in L3 products
    1. A bug bas been found in the Ver.3 ARNP product that the L3 global data with no snow masking is generated due to the wrong value of the mask for statistics of L2 ARNPF.
    2. The potentially affected files are below.
      Area: The global data (L3 AROTC, L3 ARAEC, L3 ASSAC)
      Period: 2020 July - 2022 May
    3. All affected products will be processed correctly and will be distributed via FTP site.
    4. The above bug will be fixed by a minor version update of the product (V3002->V3003).
    （iv）Wrong data input to the global products
    1. A bug bas been found in the Ver.3 ARNP product that the L2 and L3 global data with wrong input data is generated due to the unintentional input data.
    2. The potentially affected files are below.
      Area: The global data (L2 ARNPF、L3 AROTC、L3 ARAEC、L3 ASSAC)
      Period: 2020 July - 2022 May
    3. All affected products will be processed correctly and will be distributed via FTP site.
    4. The above bug will be fixed by a minor version update of the product (V3002->V3003).
    （v）Regarding the suspension of the Himawari's aerosol assimilation model data input
    1. Due to the suspension of the Himawari's aerosol assimilation model data input following system maintenance of the numerical model, the accuracy of the aerosol product may be temporarily degraded. Assimilation model data are used as initial values in the aerosol algorithm.
    2. The potentially affected files are below.
      Area: The global data (L3 AROTC, L3 ARAEC, L3 ASSAC)
      Period: 2024 December 27th - 2025 January (middle).

  • （i）Wrong sea ice detection
    1. A bug has been found in the Ver.3 SICE & OKID product that causes unintended sea ice detection in some areas.
    2. The potentially affected files are below.
      Area: The part of the global ocean regions (L2 SICEK, L2 OKIDK/Q, L3 SICEF)
      Period: 2021 June-July, 2022 February-March
    3. The affected products will be distributed via FTP site after correct processing (below).
    4. The above bug has been already fixed by a minor version update of the product (V3000-->V3001).
