Terms of Use

GCOM In-situ data distribution service (hereinafter referred to as "the Service") provides in-situ dataset that is collected by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (hereinafter referred to as "JAXA") and the Earth Observation Research Center (hereinafter referred to as "EORC") with free of charge.

Terms of Use of the Service are terms and conditions that users are expected to follow in the use of the Service.

Please read the terms and conditions carefully and agree on them before the use of the Service.

1. Site Policy

Site policy of the Service (https://suzaku.eorc.jaxa.jp/GCOM/insitu/) is basically based on the site policy (https://global.jaxa.jp/policy.html) of JAXA.

2. User Registration

User registration is required before the use of the Service because the Service adopts user authentication system that uses a set of e-mail address (as user account) and password for the user administration. The information for the registration is your name, e-mail address, organization, department, country/region, and purpose of data usage. In addition, the principal investigator (PI), who makes a contract of joint research or contract research with JAXA, and Co-Investigators (CI) of PI are required to input PI-number too.

3. Deletion of User Registration

If you want to delete your user registration information, please notify Help Desk of the Service described in the chapter 12 by an e-mail.

4. Protection of Personal Information & Handling of Personal Information

JAXA handles the personal information such as names and e-mail addresses in accordance with the Code and other laws and regulations regarding personal information including GDPR and JAXA's rules on protection of personal information.
For details, refer to "Consent form for handling personal information based on GDPR" and "JAXA Privacy Policy".

JAXA doesn't use registered personal information except for the following purposes:

  • Statistic and analysis of in-situ data use
  • Questionnaire surveys to users for the improvement of the Service
  • Response to inquiries from users

In addition, JAXA contracts outside companies to outsource a part of the Service functions on behalf of JAXA. The functions include the system management, user management, and Help Desk operation.
They may access to personal information to perform the functions, but may not use it for any purpose.

5. Management of user account and password

User account and password are managed and used under the responsibility of user. JAXA is not responsible to you for any loss or damage or due to any other cause beyond the control of JAXA that may be caused by misuse of user account and password by another person.

6. Ownership of Data etc.

If not mentioned specifically, the copyright and the intellectual property right of the in-situ data and other materials provided in the Service are the property of JAXA. In some cases, however, PIs or the data providing agency still hold those rights for parts of in-situ data set. Please consult readme of individual in-situ data for details about the ownership of data.

7. Deletion of user registration

JAXA reserves the right to delete your user registration if you have not complied with the Terms of Use or are an inappropriate user of the Service.

8. Change of the Service

JAXA may change the Term of Use, service contents and conditions of the Service. JAXA shall notify users of the change on the "Information" page of the Service. Please confirm the change when you use this service for the first time after the change.

9. Termination of the Service

JAXA reserves the right to terminate the Service by JAXA's own reasons. In that case, JAXA shall notify users of the termination beforehand by proper means.

10. Rules for data use and the publication of results

Please follow the rules described below when using the in-situ data provided on this in-situ data web.

  1. 1) It is necessary to agree with data provider about how to acknowledge the favor (e.g., including data provider as a co-author or in the acknowledgement).
    In addition, please submit an application form to JAXA before submitting paper, and the after the publication, please submit a reprint too. The destination, please refer to "the GCOM inquiry secretariat" of Section 12 of Terms of Use.
  2. 2) It is necessary to describe the use of JAXA’s database and the organization of data acquisition in the acknowledgement (follow the JAXA’s policy on data use).
  3. 3) Redistribution of the raw data is prohibited.

Please specify the following sentence when you publish a thesis, paper report, and so on by using in-situ data and others supplied by the Service.

"In-situ Dataset were supplied by the GCOM In-situ Data Web, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency."

Please be aware in advance that:
Although JAXA has taken every care to manage the Service, JAXA assumes no responsibility regarding the safety of the contents of the Service or the reliability of information provided on the Service. JAXA is not responsible to you for any damage that may be caused by the use of the Service and/or the information on the Service.
JAXA may change or delete the information on the Service, or may suspend or terminate the operation of the Service. JAXA is not responsible to you for any inconvenience that may be caused by such changes or deletion of the information, or by such suspension or termination of the operation of the Service.
